I have the honor to report for
Your Lordship's information that in consequence of the resignation by Caldwell of the appointment of Assistant Superintendent of Police and Interpreter in the Chinese language in September last, which arose from his heavy involvements having compelled his
Creditors to arrest him, it became
necessary to appoint another Interpreter, and Mr. Gutzlaff was able to procure a pupil from the Morrison Education Society, named Achik.
